It’s the practice of shackling or locking away a family member with a mental illness. It’s born not of cruelty, but of desperation, fear, and a profound lack of access to basic medical care.
In our world, a diagnosis is the first step toward healing. In many parts of Bali, it's the first step toward being outcast. A life sentence of isolation, hidden away from a community that doesn't understand.
Mental illness whispers lies, telling those who suffer that they are broken, unworthy, alone. But the loudest lie is that this is how it has to be.

Our mission is clear and direct:
We Fund the Medication: We directly fund the procurement and distribution of essential psychiatric medications to those who have no access.
We Partner with Locals: We work with trusted on-the-ground health partners in Bali to ensure medication reaches those most in need.
We Break the Stigma: By showing that treatment works, we help replace fear with understanding, one family, one community at a time.
This is a global problem, but every solution must have a beginning. For us, that beginning is Bali. Its beauty is known to the world, but the silent suffering in the shadows is not. We are here to change that.

The Sole Family Endowment was founded on a simple, unshakable belief: no one should be expelled from their community because of an illness they cannot control.
We saw the stark contrast between the treatment available in the developed world and the heart-wrenching reality in emerging markets. We saw families torn apart by manageable conditions and knew we could not stand by.
"Sole" means one—one person, one family, one community at a time. It also speaks to the soul, the essence of a person that deserves to be seen and cherished. We are here to bring families back together, starting in Bali, with the hope of expanding our reach as our community of supporters grows.
